This program offers an authentic and lineage-based Classical Pilates education, preserving the integrity, philosophy, and movement system as it was originally taught.

About Pilates Principles by Junghee Won

Pilates Principles by Junghee Won is a comprehensive teacher training program developed and led by Junghee Won, a master Classical Pilates educator with over 30 years of experience in teacher training.

Junghee Won is:

Originally from Seoul, Korea, is the founder of PILATES PRINCIPLES® LLC and creator of the Comprehensive Teacher Training Program, PILATES PRINCIPLES® by Junghee Won.

A former professional dancer trained in ballet, modern, jazz, and Korean traditional dance, she performed at the 1986 Asian Games and the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. She earned her B.A. in Dance Education from Kyung Hee University and her M.A. in Dance/Dance Education from New York University, later completing her Ph.D. in Performing Arts at Kyung Hee University.

Introduced to Pilates in 1993, Junghee trained under Romana Kryzanowska, Joseph Pilates’ protégé, and was certified in 1999. She went on to teach at leading studios in New York, including The NY Pilates Studio®, and has worked internationally as a master teacher, trainer, and mentor. Her career includes co-founding Korea’s first Pilates studios, serving as South Korea’s director for the Power Pilates Teacher Training Program, and training Broadway performers in Cirque du Soleil’s Paramour.

Junghee is also a published scholar, with research on Pilates’ effects on dancers and movement education, and has translated Joseph Pilates’ original works Your Health and Return to Life Through Contrology into Korean. She regularly contributes to platforms such as Pilatesology and Pilates Anytime, offering classes, lectures, and workshops in both Korean and English.

Today, Junghee teaches at PILATES PRINCIPLES® in Cliffside Park, NJ, where she trains clients, apprentices, and teachers from around the world. Recognized as a global leader in classical Pilates, she continues to travel internationally as a sought-after presenter and educator.

Comprehensive Teacher Training Program (600 Hours)

 The Pilates Principles Comprehensive Teacher Training is a 600-hour Classical Pilates certification program, combining seminars, private sessions, group classes, self-practice, observation, and supervised teaching. The program requires Pre-requisite, the System Workshop, 600- Hour apprenticeship and three test outs.

Pre-Training Requirement

Classical Pilates requires a deep physical and conceptual understanding before entering a certification program.

Prior to enrollment, students are required to complete:

40 hours of Private Sessions

20 hours of Group Classes

After completing the pre-training hours, students must pass a Pre-Training Assessment (Pre-Test) to qualify for the Comprehensive Program.

Average preparation time: approximately 6 months (varies based on experience).

The System Workshop

The program consists of three progressive seminar levels:

  • The Beginner System Seminar 6 hours per day for 3 Days
  • The Intermediate System Seminar 6 hours per day for 3 Days
  • Advanced System Seminar 6 hours per day for 3 Days

Seminars are typically held once per month, allowing students time between modules to practice, study, and prepare.

Workshops are held monthly on the first weekend. A cancellation policy applies up to 30days before the first workshop.

The 600 hours Apprenticeship

After the Beginner System Workshop, you can start to collect apprenticeship hours.

What do I do for apprenticeship hours at the studio?

  • Observation of Teachers teaching and Assisting Teachers
  • Teaching Practice
  • Self-practice for workouts
  • Biweekly apprentice Meeting
  • Taking lessons

 

Examination & Certification Process

There are three major exams aligned with the seminar levels:

The Beginner System Test (typically within 3 months of program start)

The Intermediate System Test

The Advanced System Test

 

Upon passing the Beginner System Test, trainees may begin teaching real clients at Pilates Sam, NJ (Studio Square S, NY) under supervision, gaining valuable real-world teaching experience while continuing their training.

Successful completion of all requirements leads to certification as a Comprehensive Classical Pilates Instructor through Pilates Principles by Junghee Won.
